Staggered return to school – updated to include testing

Following the recent guidance from the Department for Education, we have had to make some amendments as set out below. This is to ensure that all pupils are tested before the beginning of term. A full guide to testing will be communicated in due course, including specific time to arrive on site on their testing day. Please note that on a testing day, pupils will ONLY be required to come into school to be tested and will need to be in full school uniform so please make suitable arrangements for them to be dropped off and collected.

Timings of the school day

We have reverted back to our previous timing of the school day from September. There will be no staggered entry to school but we will be staggering on exit from school, sending each year group out a couple of minutes apart. Timings for the day are as follows:

Entry and Exit Gates

On arrival to school, all pupils should use the main entrance gate, which can be accessed via Radnor Drive.

On departure from school, pupils will leave at the following gates:

 

Radnor Drive: Year 7, 9 & 11

Arbury Road: Year 8 & 10

 

Golden time

We are reintroducing the highly popular “Golden Time” where pupils who have met TNA’s 5 basic expectations will be able to leave at the slightly earlier time of 2.35pm each Friday. In order for pupils to be dismissed at this time, they will need to meet the following criteria for that week:

 

• 100% attendance
• 0 removals from lessons
• Arrived on time to school and to every lesson
• All homework completed
• Correct uniform and equipment

 

All pupils will experience ‘Golden Time’ during the first Friday of their return (Friday 10^th September) and we will begin to only allow those pupils who have met all of the above criteria to leave at 2.35pm from Friday 17^th September. Pupils who do not meet these basic expectations for that week will be required to remain in school with their tutor until 3pm each Friday from Friday 17^th September.

 

Due to all pupils experiencing Golden Time on Friday 10^th September, the normal school bus will leave school at 2.45pm on this day for this week only.

 

Tutor Time

We are really looking forward to introducing Tutor time to our school day. Each pupil will be assigned a tutor on their first full school day back in September. Please note that tutors and tutor groups will be different to previous groups pupils have been part of.

 

Uniform

Thank you for your support in maintaining the high standards of appearance that the pupils demonstrate on a day to day level.  Being smart and professional is an expectation of our society when leaving education and entering the world of work.  It is our expectation that we should also pursue these qualities with our pupils in order to establish a professional outlook in their approach to all matters inside and outside of the Academy. How pupils wear their uniform can demonstrate the attitude and approach they have to their learning and to the life in the Academy. We have provided information below on uniform. We have been working in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education to ensure there is an affordable option for some items of our uniform, including school shoes.

If you require additional support for uniform, we will be providing a ‘pop-up shop’ for donated uniform during the school holidays on the following days during the holidays:

 

Monday 26^th July 10am-2pm

Tuesday 27^th July 10am-2pm

Tuesday 31^st August 10am-2pm

 

Parents and pupils can come onto site during these days and times where donated uniform from previous pupils will be available for parents to collect. All uniform is cleaned and in good condition. As a reminder, the Academy’s expectations for uniform and appearance are laid out below:

 

Blazers

The Academy blazer must be worn at all times within the Academy.

Jumpers

A TNA branded jumper may be worn underneath the blazer. No other jumpers are accepted as uniform. Hoodies or sweatshirts may only be worn as an alternative to a coat and must be worn over the top of the blazer. No jumpers or coats are to be worn inside buildings at any time and no jumper should be worn instead of a blazer. If pupils have jumpers or coats on at any time inside of a building or instead of a blazer, the jumper/coat will be confiscated and pupils will be able to collect these at the end of the day.

Shirts and Ties

All ‘school’ shirts must be a style that fastens at the collar, so that a tie can be worn and tied appropriately. The expectation is that the tie is worn correctly with the top button fastened.  No coloured tops/t-shirts should be visible underneath shirts.

Trousers and Skirts

Only skirts with the school logo are acceptable and no other skirts are accepted as uniform. School style black trousers for boys and girls.  No wide, flared trousers, ‘skinny’ jean-style black trousers or leggings. 

Footwear

Pupils must wear plain black leather or synthetic leather shoes.

Jewellery

Pupils are allowed to wear plain stud earrings only; for health and safety reasons it is not appropriate for pupils to wear large hooped earrings. Pupils should have no facial piercings. This includes clear piercings.

Hair Styles

Hair should be of a natural colour only.

Equipment

All pupils should bring basic equipment to school with them each day. This includes:

• Pen
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Highlighter
• Alternative coloured pen to mark their work

Tutors will check equipment each morning to ensure pupils are ‘ready to learn’ each day.
