Remote Learning Provision 2025/2026

Purpose and Scope

This policy outlines Nuneaton Academy’s approach to remote learning in the event of a full school closure affecting all pupils (for example, due to severe weather or other emergency circumstances). It does not apply to individual pupil absences.

Our aim is to ensure that learning continues with minimal disruption, maintaining the same high expectations and standards that pupils experience on site.

Platforms and Core Resources

• Microsoft Teams – for live lessons and communication
• Sparx Maths and Sparx Reader – for independent learning
• Oak National Academy – for additional structured online lessons and resources

Provision by Closure Length

Day one of School Closure
All pupils (Years 7–11) should:
• Complete work on Sparx Maths and Sparx Reader
• Access appropriate online lessons from the Oak National Academy website

Day two of School Closure  (past one full day of closure)
• Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11): follow their normal school timetable through live lessons on Microsoft Teams
• Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9): continue independent learning using Sparx Maths, Sparx Reader, and Oak National Academy resources

Past 2 Days of Continued Closure
If the school remains closed for longer than two days, all year groups (Years 7–11) will move to live lessons via Microsoft Teams, following their usual school timetable

Expectations for Live Lessons (Microsoft Teams)

• Cameras must remain off for all pupils during live lessons
• Microphones should be muted unless invited to speak
• Pupils should use the chat or “raise hand” function appropriately
• Normal classroom standards of behaviour apply – pupils are expected to conduct themselves respectfully and uphold the Nuneaton Norms: Respectful, Responsive and Resolute at all times
• Pupils should join lessons from a quiet space where possible and be dressed appropriately for learning
• Staff may record live lessons for safeguarding or quality assurance purposes. Pupils must not record, screenshot or share any lesson content

Curriculum and Teaching

Teachers will continue to deliver the planned curriculum where possible through Microsoft Teams, using a combination of teacher explanation, guided practice and independent work. Where suitable, Sparx Maths, Sparx Reader, and Oak National Academy resources will be used to complement live teaching.

Attendance and Engagement

• Registers will be taken for all live lessons on Teams once these begin (from Day two for KS4 and from Day three for all pupils)
• Pupils are expected to attend and participate fully
• Where engagement concerns arise, the teachers and pastoral team will contact parents or carers

Access and Support

If a closure is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, the school will support access by providing:
• Loan devices or internet support where available
• Printed resources where necessary
• Adjusted materials for pupils where appropriate

Parents and carers should contact the teacher, pastoral staff or SENDCo if additional support is required.

Safeguarding and Online Safety

• All remote learning will follow Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and the school’s Safeguarding and Behaviour Policies.
• Communication between staff and pupils will only occur through official school platforms.
• Any safeguarding concerns must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Data Protection

All remote learning activities will comply with the school’s Data Protection Policy. Personal data must not be shared or stored outside of approved systems.

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or following any period of extended closure, in line with updated Department for Education guidance.
