A Right to Read
As per the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) Statement on  INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM, ACCESS TO INFORMATION AND CENSORSHIP, we uphold belief in the Freedom to Read; therefore, students are free to explore and learn from any books they choose within the Nuneaton Academy Library.

The Librarian does not read every book available, although general suitability for a school library is assessed. Students may choose freely from the full library selection of books. Those with more mature content or language are highlighted to students as they are requested, in order that they may judge for themselves whether they wish to continue with a loan, but no prior judgement is made on their behalf. In short – any student can read any book available in the school library.
If you have any concerns or wish to discuss your child’s reading choices, please contact the library through the school reception.
Lost or overdue books
Books borrowed from the Nuneaton Academy Library have a loan period of 3 weeks. Students may extend their loan time for a book by asking to ‘renew’ it in the library.

Graphic novels and manga have a loan period of 7 days, as they are very in demand and tend to be a quicker read. These too, can be renewed, if necessary.

If a book is overdue a reminder will be sent to the student in form time, asking that they return the book to the library. If the book continues to be overdue then a reminder will be sent home.
Books can be an expensive resource to replenish and replace at a large scale, and it is important that all students have access to the titles that interest them. Students are solely responsible for any books that they have borrowed from the library. In order that all students continue to have access to the resources in the library; lost or unreturned books must be replaced in kind (good condition second-hand books will be accepted) before any further library books are issued.

At Nuneaton Academy, we are lucky to have wide range of new and exciting books of all genres and try to stay up-to-date with what the students are choosing to read in their own time.
Suggestions for new titles are always welcome!
